Hall of Fame (MATH, November 2011)

In NIS Math the twin goals of instruction are comprehension and long-term memory. We are able to produce these first and foremost by providing students with powerful visual materials. We offer materials from Singapore, America, and England. To add to that, many of our lessons are complemented by multimedia materials such as videos and power points. Our school boasts an impressive Computer Lab that all Math students use in the course of their studies.

The second way we accomplish the twin goals of learning is by doing. Just as one could never learn to ride a bicycle by watching a video, students cannot learn fundamental Math skills without serious practice. Students in our Math class are on task completing teacher-guided practice and real world application of their learned skills.

One of the major advantages every student receives at NIS is a Math specialist. This is someone who spends all their time designing effective lessons, and projects. They have the resources and freedom to be able to guide your student to mastery. Last December, our Grade 5 and Grade 6 Students took a Cambridge International Examination for their respective grade levels. Of 43 students, 37 passed the examination and 22 received a grade A or B. If your child enrolls at NIS, they will truly be on a path to be competitive in Math with any student around the world.

Congratulations to Melody of Year 5 for winning the Math award this month. In addition to high test scores Melody produces incredibly good class work and is a model student.

Keep up the good work!
