Hall of Fame (ENGLISH, November 2011)

ENGLISH is not just a vital part of NIS’ curriculum in its own right; it is also the medium of instruction for Mathematics, Science, Art, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Humanities, Health Studies and Music. NIS students learn a range of important skills in their English classes; these include vocabulary building and expansion, spelling, reading (silently and out loud), listening and writing comprehension and – in the upper Primary years – special kinds of English language styles(such as those used for persuasion and analysis).

Students are encouraged to speak English outside the classroom through NIS’ ENGLISH SPEAKING ENVIRONMENT (ESE) policy, which is actively monitored by all teachers, and awards are presented to classes whose students excel in this regard on a regular basis.

NIS students have gained outstandingly good English results in tests conducted by outside bodies, such as the University of Cambridge (UK)’s ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) tests.
