NIS operates a very special system in its Chinese Section, in which classes are arranged in accordance with students’ varying abilities and levels of background knowledge. We thus provide both Chinese as a Mother Tongue and Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) classes. Our Chinese as a Mother Tongue classes are mainly for Chinese descendants and Chinese native speakers; Chinese as a Second Language (CSL) classes are available to non-native speakers. To ensure the quality and consistency of our Chinese teaching and our students’ proficiency in the Chinese language, CSL classes are offered as a supplementary course for the students who need extra help in their Chinese studies.
Furthermore, NIS students learn Simplified Chinese and not Traditional characters. Teaching in this way makes learning Chinese easier and thus also encourages students.
Moreover, NIS students are encouraged to take examinations and to participate in Chinese speech competitions organised from both China and Thailand. All students are inspired to attain significant achievements through their inner learning spirit to try to obtain a prize or a scholarship through excellence. Finally, a major benefit is provided by the consistent support all the Chinese teachers receive from NIS to work on their projects and enforce Chinese teaching standards strictly (especially in the area of Chinese homework).
