LEARNING CHINESE AT NISLearning Mandarin at NIS is both enjoyable and useful for students at all levels and ages. Chinese is the most frequently spoken language in the world with c. 900 million native speakers; learning it as an international language for social, cultural and business reasons is thus an important skill for the 21st Century and an essential part of NIS’ trilingual educational approach. A good knowledge of Chinese will open doors to advantages in employment (e.g. in manufacturing, teaching, translation, interpreting, travel, import-export etc) and significantly improves a student’s chances of success in job markets dealing with Asian economies. Studying Chinese is a fun task at NIS as well as an important one. The School’s resources include vocabulary, accent, pronunciation and calligraphy-building aids all carefully chosen for their suitability vis-à-vis its students, their age groups and their levels. All students study at their own pace, using Singapore-approved textbooks and curricular elements identical to those used in Mainland China.
