We are English and Thai parents of Jamie and Ben. Jamie is in his second year at the school and is in K-2. Ben is in his first term at the school and is in Pre-Kindergarten. Both of them like the school very much. I have lived and worked in Thailand for nearly sixteen years and we expect to bring up our children in Thailand. We live in Bang Plee and wanted a school for our children which is bilingual but not necessarily an international school. At home, I speak to the children in English only and my wife speaks to them in Thai and English. It is important to us that our children are as good in Thai language skills (of reading and writing) as their Thai peers, as well as getting a good grounding in English, if they are to get in to University here and to compete to get the best jobs in Thailand. We have heard from friends of ours whose ‘luuk krung’ children went to international school, that their children struggled because they had not received tuition in Thai to the necessary level and were not able to compete against their Thai colleagues. Though the school isn’t particularly close to where we live, we chose the school as we had heard good reports from friends, visited it and liked what we saw, as it offers what we are looking for for our children. We have been able to judge the school based upon the progress of both of our children. Jamie seems excited to be learning to read and write, Ben has settled down very quickly and both have very nice friends. I left Nantawan Trilingual School being convinced that this is indeed the school that will produce future leaders in Thailand. The use of international standard curriculums in Maths, Science and English ensures that pupils are only receiving the best educational systems available. A high level of academic achievement is reflected in the quality of work that was seen. There is no doubt that this is a product of both the hard work and positive attitudes of the pupils and of effective teaching. The children are able to communicate in English effectively and I was particularly astounded by their exceptionally high standard of Chinese. The school as a whole amply meets its aims and aspirations, and the needs of its pupils. NTS must be commended for its ability to raise the language proficiency of every child to such a high level; I believe that these are vital skills for the child’s future.
